LAN parties are a staple in the video gaming community. The tournaments formed at LAN parties spawned the highly competitive “e-sports” market developers, publishers, and gamers alike enjoy.
However, more and more games are shipping without Internet-less multiplayer capability. These games rely on Internet-based servers for authenticating the gamer’s copy of the game, hosting multiplayer server lobbies, collecting statistics, and acting as the actual server during the multiplayer gameplay.
